Boston Bruins Deadline Review

2014-03-22

The Boston Bruins entered the 2013-14 campaign with great hopes and expectation of the post season glory. While they have not been mathamatically elimiated the chances of a post-season birth would be nothing short of a miracle. The 2013-14 MRFHL season has been full of many highs and lows - mainly of the latter. This year marked some of the most significant changes since GM Valente was hire many years ago. The longest serving Bruin and heart of the team Jonathan Toews was traded to Florida Pather's ushering in a new era of Bruins hockey. The blow delt to the Bruins fan base with the news both Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews was devastaing. The only consolation Bruins Nation was the future promise of sucess and a MRFHL Championship. Many fan are pleased with the way the club is rounding out. After being acquired earlier in the season, Claude Giroux appears to have settled in and been identified as a key cog in the Bruins future. John Tavares has filled in adimirably since the departure of Jonathan Toews and has become the face of the franchise.

Year in and year out, regarless of how well the pro-team preformed, GM Valente worked tirelessly to ensure the organiation would be well endowed for years to come. There is a buzz about the Bruins orgnaization unlike any in recent memory. Many players within the organization appear to be ready to make the jump to the big leagues.

Leading up to the deadline, the Boston Bruins were re-tooling the roster for next year. Finding wingers to play alongside Claude Giroux and John Tavares had become the main priority. It had become evident that playing both John Tavares and Claude Giroux on the same line produced a potent offense, the Bruins knew they would be better served allowing each to anchor their own lines.

On the eve of the deadline, the Bruins moved promising prospect Filp Forsberg to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Sven Baertschi. Though not the most ideal trade the Bruins felt compelled to pull the trigger to add a young skilled winger who had gained some pro-experience with Carolina this year.

Many rumors were circling the Bruins on deadline day, it was not until later in the evening did the Bruins make another move.  After tough negotiations, the Bruins agreed to move both Calle Jarnock and Ian McCoshen along with a 3rd round pick in the upcoming entry draft for vetern winger Scott Hartnell.  This move provided the Bruins with a top 6 vertern forward who could help provide guidance what will surly be a very young and inexperienced roster next season.

Shortly after the Bruins announced that Ryan O'Reilly was on his way to Canada's capital city, Ottawa in exchange for Jakub Vorack. Many analysts believe this was a positional move by the organization. Claude Giroux would be sliding into the centre position for the secon half of the year but more importantly, Jaromir Jagr's future in Boston and in hockey anything but certain it was important to ensure the club be sufficiently prepared heading into the offseason.

Closing out the MRFHL season, the Bruins will be tinkering with many line combinations. It is expected the Bruins will fire head coach Claude Julian upon the conclusion of another disastrous season.  Heading into the offseason there will be many more changes however the remaining games will provide a good idea of what positions or furuther changes will be require (if any).
