Changing Of The Guard

2014-12-27

The New York Islanders are sad to announce that Tomas Vokoun has been forced to take a leave of absence from the organization for personal health reasons. Much storied through the last few years Tomas has dealt with multiple personal health issues and has brought it to ownerships attention that he feels for his own future reasons that he must take a step back from the spot light of the Islanders organization. We found owner Robert who had a few comments about Vokoun.

"Tomas has been absolutely everything we had hoped when he arrived this season. He's shown leadership both on and off the ice and I'm sure if he would like we could have a position somewhere in the organization for him. Be it Scouting, Coaching whatever he wants we are willing to work it out. It's a tough call to get from someone who you've leaned on for majority of the season to help be our #1 guy in this rebuild and he;s done it amazingly but as I told him when we spoke "It takes a bigger man to put yourself before your health and we will help in anyway that we can". Vokoun is a great goalie and his stats stand alone and we wish him the best in his future either way."

Going forward what is your overall plan for goaltending?

"Well we plan on going forward with the tandem of Campbell/Berra and really see who wants to be the #1 for our team. Both are great goalies in the respective ways, Berra a proven back up and Campbell with background of Junior success and getting time with Bridgeport. Should be a great 2nd half to this season and I look forward to talking to you on draft day."

Well for TSN this is Ribbi Shibbi signing off outside the Islanders administration office. Good luck Vokoun you've been a legend.
