Blues Come Out of the Draft with Hope

2018-06-29

The Blues goal in the 2018 draft is the same as their goal in 2017 and 2016, the year GM Lap took over the reigns, to compile as much youth for the rebuild as possible without consideration of position. This plan saw fruit in the past two years with players like Jost, Vilardi, Bellows, Tolvanen but did seem a bit sparse on the backend with Brannstrom the only draftee with elite potential. This year, the smooth skating potential top pairing Dman Quinn Hughes fell in their lap and the Blues were estatic. The Blues then traded to move up and select potential sniper elite Vitaly Kravtsov. If Kravtsov is willing to move to Missouri and leave the KHL he will be featured prominently immediately. The Blues then made two selections they consider steals: Jesse Ylonen and Jake Wise. Ylonen shot up the boards and Jake Wise was forecasted to be a top 10-20 pick at the beginning of the year but a shoulder injury cut short his year. The full draft pick list for the Blues consists of:

1.       Quinn Hughes

2.       Vitaly Kravtsov

3.       Jesse Ylonen

4.       Jake Wise

5.       Alex Regula

6.       Linus Karlsson

7.       Justus Annunen

8.        Lukas Dostal

Onward into future contention!
