Capitals trying to Build for today, but at what costs?

2022-11-10

The Washington Capitals have put a major effort recently to improve their results today, but worry about the affect it will have on their future.  In the last week the Capitals have brought in Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Victor Arvidsson and Taylor Hall.  It is hoped that these three forwards will create a very potent offense.  We these forwards added to the current rosterit should make the Capitals very competitive for the next couple years.

The worry that Capital Management has is, what affect these transactions will have on the future competitiveness when these players move on.  The Capitals traded away Jespar Fast, strong future players in Landon Staggert and Aleksi Heponiemi and one first round draft pick in 2024 and two second round draft picks, one in 2023 and the other in 2024.  Now the shelves aren't empty, but it means mid level prospects and mid round draft picks will have a great deal more pressure to develop and be Pro caliber talent.  These remaining prospects and picks cannot be busts, so the pressure is on Capitals Management.
