Hurricanes Start Playoffs With A Win

2017-04-26

Ottawa, ON.

The Sens Army packed the rink loud and proud last night but not a peep came out of them after all was said and done. The Hurricanes, in their first playoff appearance since the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals started off their post-season with a bang. Riding a 26 save performance from Cory Schneider and a 2 point performance from Seth Jones, the Hurricanes took a 1-0 series lead with a 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.

"They're a tough team, there's a reason why they were first place in this league" said head coach, Willie Desjardins, in his post-game meet with the media, "I'm happy that we were able to play our game and keep them contained. You always hear about wanting to split the two away games but make no mistake, we'll be looking to take both road games from them and come home hot. Obviously, they're going to come out hungry in Game 2 to try and even up our series so we'll have to be ready".

The game-winning goal came from Zach Parise early in the second period as the Hurricanes potted two more throughout the rest of the game for the 4-1 final. "You know, I'm glad that we were able to come through and take the first game", said Parise post-game, "that gives us a small advantage over them but the series is long and they'll push back. I think a lot of credit needs to go to 'Schneids for helping us get that victory, he's been our rock all season".

The Hurricanes couldn't have scripted a better start to their playoff series and will look to increase their series lead in Game 2. Fans are reminded that Game 3 and 4 tickets are sold out but a handful will be released at the box office Friday.
