Canucks Trade Deadline

2012-05-09

The Vancouver Canucks went into the trade deadline near the top of the league while also being close to the cap.  Canucks fans did not expect major changes, but saw Vancouver GM Rino Di Antonio make one significant deal on trade deadline day.  The deal would see Vancouver send dman Dennis Seidenberg and forward Brooks Laich to Columbus in exchange for forwards Ryan Clowe, Travis Zajac, dman Jason Garrison and two prospects.  The move give the Canucks a little more depth going into the playoffs, while also freeing up some cap space in order to bring some more talent up from the farm.  After the deadline the Canucks recalled Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader, while returning Aaron Volpatti, Alexander Bolduc and Aaron Rome.

The Canucks made some depth moves earlier in the week aquiring Eric Fehr and Gilbert Brule from Phoenix for a 3rd round pick and picking up veteran Darcy Tucker from Boston in exchange for David Koci.  Both moves were to stock up the Canucks affiliate the Chicago Wolves and to provide some depth should there be any injuries.

The Canucks go down the stretch with their eyes set on a division title, along with the opportunity for a western conference titile.  They are currently sitting 4th in the West 4 pts behind thier division rivals the Edmonton Oiler but also have 3 games in hand.  Look for them to make a push in the next couple weeks.
