Panthers Top Prospects 2014: 30-26

2014-01-19

30. Samuel ‘Hunter’ Fejes, LW, 19, [Anchorage, Alaska] (PR: 23)

6’1, 192lbs

Drafted 4th Round (96th Overall) in 2012

The darling pick of the 2012 draft for Dylan, Fejes has dropped considerably. After an impressive first year at Colorado College with 14 points in 41 games, Hunter has followed that up with a big fat goose egg in 20 games in his sophomore campaign. Still with two and a half seasons left at Colorado College, time is still on his side. The skillset is there, but whether it makes a return remains to be seen.

Future: A very long term project. Will probably play through all his college eligibility, and then if he does get a contact, another few years in the AHL.

29. Robin Norell, D, 18, [Stockholm, Sweden] (PR: NEW)

5’11, 192lbs

Drafted 4th round (111th Overall) in 2013

The steady defenseman is excelling with Team Sweden at the WJC, showing a glimpse of the future. It hasn’t been all good news for Norell, as an injury had sidelined him earlier on in the year. At 18 years old, the young Swede has shown great composure playing in the Allsvenskan, it should help him along in NA.

Future: Probably spend a few more years in Sweden, but is a likely candidate to jump right in when he does come overseas.

28. Austin Wuthrich, RW, 20, [Bakersfield, California] (PR: NR)

6’1, 195lbs

Drafted 4th round (111th Overall) in 2012

After a drop-off from freshman to sophomore, the hope for an offensive game was dashed, and the dreams of that bruising power forward are crushed. His 5 points in his junior year at Notre Dame is on pace to the previous year. Though his complete upside is not as high as others, he fills his role well.

Future: Will probably go ahead and finish his senior year at Notre Dame. Will spend a few years in the AHL, but his size and physicality can make him jump on to the 4th line quicker than most.

27. Myles Bell, RW, 20, [Calgary, Alberta] (PR: NEW)

6’1, 216lbs

Drafted 5th round (124th Overall) in 2013

When Myles went back for his overage year in Kelowna, the management expected another step forward in his 2nd year as a forward. That hasn’t happened, but his play hasn’t diminished as he continues to be a focal point of Kelowna’s offence. His size and skating have been on full display and the former defenseman seems to be on the right track to a pro career.

Future: Will finish up his overage year at Kelowna, and will jump to the AHL next season. He’s probably just a few years away from making an impact on the pro team.

26. Ryan Rupert, C, 19, [Grand Bend, Ontario] (PR: NR)

5’10, 190lbs

Drafted 5th round (141st Overall) in 2012

After missing out on the list last year, Ryan has beat out his twin Matt to make the list. The thing that separates him from his twin is that Ryan possesses an offensive ability, showing it at London this year with 43 points in 44 games. The physicality that Ryan plays with and his two-way ability make Ryan a very intriguing prospect, and a high riser.

Future: Whether his brother gets a contract, remains to be seen. But Ryan will surely be in the AHL next year and has the skillset to be a very good 3rd liner in the MRFHL, with plenty of energy.
