Pain is Pleasure for Daigle All-Stars

Bonsignore Team fails to live up to expectations

The local fans who packed the Air Canada Centre to see the first game of the MRFHL All-Star Tournament got treated to a specatacular perfomance by the hometown players on the Daigle All-Star team.  All Maple Leaf skaters made the score sheet, led by Marian Hossa's 3 points.

Hossa, in fact, opened the scoring sixteen seconds into the game, setting the tone for both the players on the ice as 11 goals were scored, as well as the fans who came close to breaking sound records in an arena.  Derek Roy and Francois Beauchemin each had two points and Curtis Glencross also scored in the first to put the Daigle up 2-1.

Erik Karlsson also had a big night for the Daigle, scoring once and bagging two assists in the near penalty-free contest.  Kimmo Timonen and Radim Vrbata also tallied on the board for the Daigle Stars.  Alexander Ovechkin scored twice in the first two periods, and Sidney Crosby and Martin St. Louis scored for the Brendl side.

The Daigle Division All Stars have been dubbed "The Goon Squad" by their GM Ron Dubin, and this afternoon truly showed it as they pummeled their opponents 17-7 in hits.  Tomorrow's game vs. the Stefan Division All-Stars will be a definate one to watch.

As the sensational story that made headlines throughout the first half of the season, Edmonton's Stephen Weiss kept his superhero act back in Alberta as he went scoreless in a 7-5 loss to the Stefan Division.  Playing on the third line and eventually benched in the final half of the third period, Weiss' play looked apathetic and disinterested.  Declining to be interviewed after the game, Weiss quickly left the arena and was seen on his way to the Pearson Airport.

On the flipside of things, Steven Stamkos had one of his best performances of the season, scoring a hat trick and adding an assist in a losing cause.  John Carlson and Eric Staal also scored with Corey Perry and Patrick Marleau each having strong games with 2 assists each.

Patrice Bergeron led the way for the Stefan All-Star squad, scoring twice and getting into a fight and winning it.  The scoring was rather spread out for the Stefan squad which can be a promising sign going into the tournament finals tomorrow against a punishing Daigle division team.  Andrew Ladd, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall, Stephane Robidas and Claude Giroux all scored for the winners and Roberto Luongo stood on his head in the second period, stopping 19 of 20 shots.
