All Star Tournament Recap: Day 2

2014-01-29

There was action, there was drama, there was no pun in the title to begin this article!  Sunday's All-star finale was a true exposition of the skill and beauty of the game.  14 goals scored in regulation time, eight a piece, and then we went to a shootout after overtime solved nothing.  Red Wing Scott Hartnell was the hero as the Air Canada Centre's roof will have to be examined for damage after it nearly blew off when he won it for Team Daigle a.k.a. The Goon Squad.

Both teams were led by legendary individual performances, hometown favourite Marian Hossa for the Daigle, and Taylor Hall for the Stefan, both notching hat tricks for their teams.  Thomas Vanek had 4 points and Ryan Nugent Hopkins was at his playmaking best with 3 assists.  Mike Richards also scored two for the Stefan Divsion.  Daigle Goalie Tim Thomas, pulled late in the first after allowing four unanswered goals, returned in the third to find his game again.

This game has revitilized hope for the offensive purists of the game, hoping it will spur the league to open the game up more and allow its offensive talent to truly shine as it did Sunday.  Goalies, on the other hand, were glad that this game didn't affect their season stats.  All in all, the fans came away the winner as the whole game had an electric feel.
