Canucks make moves as trade deadline approaches.

2015-02-24

It would seem Canucks GM Rino Di Antonio was looking to get a jump on his competators by making

a big deal well before the trade deadline.  The move would see Chris Pronger and Chris Kelly heading to the Bost Bruins in exchange for Brian Allen, prospect Scott Mayfield and two draft picks.  Pronger's third stint with the Canucks only lasted 12 games after being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs with Henrick Lundqvist.

The latest move comes as no surprise as the Canucks find themselves still in the bottom third of the standings, although picking up points in recent games. This years roster has not been able to gel and their win/loss record shows it.  "We are not used to being in this position" said Di Antonio.  "Unfortunately we are a lot closer to the bottom of the standings than the top."  And with a deep draft it would seem to make more sense to acquire a couple picks rather than add rentals to make a push for the playoffs.

One would expect that the Canucks GM will still have some moves to make going into the deadline.  With upcoming veteran free agents such as Brian Allen, Dan Girardi, Adam Hall among others being shopped to playoff contenders.  There would alsobe no surprise if other player under contract get dealt too.
