Bruins Make Bold Moves

2016-04-01

The Nature Boy has pulled off a number of significant trades over the past few weeks. The biggest of which saw top defender and pending UFA Brent Seabrook moved to the NY Rangers in exchange for 24 year old James van Riemsdyk. Rumors swirled that contract negotiations appeared to were not going anywhere with Brent Seabrook and his agent and it appeared at the end of the season Brent would be testing the free agent market. GM Flair decided to pull the trigger on acquiring some much needed winger depth and some cap certainty by acquring the young van Riemsdyk. It appears JVR has had some early success, including exacting some revenge on his former club by scoring a winning goal. Since joining the team JVR is off to a great start with 11 points in 8 games played for the Bruins. The recent success has come along side of John Tavares who has gone on a scoring streak currently sitting at 35 goals on the season.

With the All-Star deadline approaching the Bruin's wasted little time back filling the hole left by Brent Seabrook in acquiring Dan Girardi for highly skilled prospect Sonny Milano and a 3rd round pick.  "We didn't want to give up Sonny but we feel with comfortable with the skill we have at center in the system - now was the time make a move." With Girardi the Bruins get some cap certainty in that they have him locked up to a reasonable contract at $5.5 million over the next two season. At 32 years of age Girardi has plenty of quality hockey ahead of him and looks to be a great fit next to restricted free agent Ryan McDonagh.

To cap the night the Bruins made a minor acquisition of big-hitting, defensive minded defender Alexi Emelin for a 4th round pick, prospect Harri Sateri and Jonathan Racine.  Emelin will see some time on the penalty kill and provide the Bruins with a much needed physical presence.

With trade deadline approaching the Bruins will likley be looking to add one more player up front that can help them make a strong push to the holy grail.
