Kane't Get a Deal Done

2016-09-20

After weeks of a back and forth, sources say that the Panthers are no closer to locking up their star winger Patrick Kane. Kane who just finished his 3rd year in the organization was one of the few bright spots in a year that ultimately saw Florida on the outside of the playoffs.

This discourse may come as a shock as the Panthers seemingly breezed through negotatiations of some of their top players; Alex Ovechkin, Justin Faulk, Alex Pietrangelo and Jamie Benn. No one knows for sure what numbers are being bounced around, but a source close to the Florida management group believes that the team is not prepared to pay Kane more than captain Sidney Crosby. Crosby who led the Panthers in points for the last 5 years was instrumental in bringing a championship to Florida in 2013. The captain was paired up with Kane most of last season.

"We are not prepared to comment on any details in these contract talks, but we are confident that we will be able to get Patrick locked up and ready for the season. This is not a slight to Kane as a player, we just need to think forward as to what is best for our team going forward and what can help keep us competive," said GM Dylan Wilson during a dinner in support of TBA.
