Boston Bruins 2017 Draft Report

2017-06-28

Boston Bruins made a significant move heading into the 2017 MRFHL draft by trading three first round picks, Max and Griffin Reinhart to the Buffalo Sabers for the 1st Overall Pick and Vancouvers 1st in 2018. Below is a recap of the Bruins 2017 MRFHL Draft selections:

C - Nico Hischier (1) : Dubbed the “Swiss McDavid”, Nico is one of the finest talents to come out of Switzerland since Roman Josi. Nico is skilled playmaker with soft hands and while he does not have a massive body of work the Bruins felt he was the best player in this years draft.

LW - Jonah Gadjovic (42) : Not the prettiest skater Jonah can still get the job done. While many feel his success can be attributed to Nick Suzuki, Bruins feels Jonah opened up more room for his linemate. Bruins like his game in the corners and in front of the net. He brings a skill set that could see him play in a top six forward capcity if he continues to develop.

G - Keith Petruzzelli (72) : Bruins hope Petruzzelli can continue to refine his game as he has all the attributes of future NHL starting goaltender. Bruins will give him all the time he needs to develop.

C - Alexie Lipanov (80): Bruins were thrilled to snag Lipanov at 80. Lipanov plays a complete game and has great hockey IQ. WIll be interesting to see how he develops.

D - Max Gildon (81) : Bruins were looking to bolster the defence core however they took best player available. With back to back picks the Bruins were thrilled to take 6’3” Gildon. Rare combination of size and agility, Gildon is a work in progress. Bruins will give Gildon time to develop and  work on his sharpening all aspects of his defensive game.

D - Jonathan Kocaevic (113) : Continuing to focus on defence the Bruins selected 6’4” right shooting defenceman Kocaevic.

D - Malte Setkov (121) : Massive Danish defender who moves the puck well. Bruins were surprised he was still on the board. In 16 games for Denmark’s U18 team, he had two goals, seven assits and six PIM.

G - Filip Larsson (132) : Filip helped Sweden win the silver medal at the U18 WJC in 2016 but has a long way to go to develop into a number one. While his numbers were not good this past season he has solid fundamentals and Bruins were happy to add him to their stable of prospect goalies.
