Alfredsson on his way out?

2010-08-19
There are two things you can say about the Edmonton Oilers roster at this point in time. On the bright side you could say that there is a very solid team taking the ice in Edmonton. You could also say they are a team that is in cap hell for this season. Alfredsson is the most logical piece to move with his 9 million dollar salary and in all likely hood will be moved before the season. Is it possible that Alfresson stays an Oilers? Yes, if offers are underwhelming than GM Stangle will find another way to get under the cap but for now Alfredsson is the cap casualty. Stangle had this to say about his decision to move Alfredsson. "Its a tough decision, he could very well be our best player. The team has been in cap trouble ever since I acquired them, but this offseason with the re-signing of Danny Heatley and solidifying of the defense has really pushed us even closer to the cap. We are looking to acquire another right winger for Alfredsson, someone with less skill but a better contract while still capable of playing on the top two lines. We are also willing to move other pieces to get a deal done."
