Doughty, coming off a steady if not spectacular rookie season last year, made giant strides in his career development. Big enough to convince Ottawa team owner Gary Brown that the former Guelph Storm standout was ready to wear the "C" on his Senators jersey. "No question, Drew was always the item of discussion of other general managers this past summer when trade discussions began. But as I made it more than clear, neither he nor (Nicklas) Backstrom are going anywhere anytime soon. We anticipate that they will play their entire professional hockey careers with us."
