New Jersey Continues Retool

2011-01-31

New Jersey has added quite a few new pieces to the cupboard in the last week picking up players from the waivers draft in Mark Carkner, Aaron Johnson, and Karel Rachunek, picking up John Scott and Dan Gendur from Vancouver for a 4th rounder adding some size, Steve Ott for Brett Clark adding toughness and grit to the top end on the right side, adding swedish sniper Andre Pettersson for Matt Hackett because we had some nice young goaltending coming already in Lehner,  moving farm hand Adam McQuaid for a much needed valued 2nd rounder in the next draft.

Then last night when it seemed the GMs were all near the phone a couple of deals that were pending for the last week happened.

First off the unthinkable when Jeffrey Skinner was asked about. I had never considered moving the kid, he was gonna be a major part of our rebirth but considering the circumstances, and the opportunity to make the team a much stronger foundation, Skinner was moved to Calgary for a couple of puck moving defenceman in Michael Del Zotto and Brandon Smith and future star Mark Alt.

The 3 for 1 at such a high level was worth losing ther blue chipper for and New Jersey is much stronger for it.

Finally, in a long debated discussion , concussed weary Marc Savard finds his way to New Jersey along with a 3rd rounder in return for Zac Dalpe and a 2nd rounder.

"We understand Savard's serious health issues but the price was right for the superstar." GM Edwards

"We are absolutely elated with what has transpired in the last week, and I understand there is at least one more major player being moved on before things might settle down a bit. We are open for discussions and will be relentless in our pursuit for the type of team we are looking for."

WHAT A WEEK !
