Hawks Draft Report

2009-06-28

You could tell by the smile on GM Todd Semonick's face after he called out the final selection of this years entry draft that the Chicago Blackhawks pulled off a very succesful day at the draft table. He added 11 players (7 forwards, 2 defenceman and 2 goaltenders) to his already enviable cupboard of talent. This is how the selections played out round by round

ROUND 1

17th overall, Jordan Schroeder  F  University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, NCAA

Born: Sep 29, 1990    Ht: 5'8 Wt: 180

35GP, 13G 32A 45PTS, 29PIM

Scouts Take:

Though undersized, Schroeder's offensive skill set make him a top notch pro prospect. Despite not coming close to touching 6', Schroeder is strong on his skates, and among the best skaters available in this years draft. He has the upside to be a point per game or better player in the NHL, and could make the jump in the next 2 years. Along with top end skating ability he has excellent finishing skills, and sees the ice very well.
