Canucks continue to tweak roster

2012-02-07

The Canucks had a fairly busy January as they continue to tweak their rosters in hopes of making another run to the cup finals.

Their first move saw them aquire prospect Devante Smith-Pelley and a 3rd round pick from Tampa in exchange for depth forwards Adam Burish and Jason Chimera.  The Canucks GM could not pass up an opportunity to aquire Smith-Pelley who is known for his strength and intensity at both end of the ice.  The Canucks lose a little depth up front in the short term but adds to the Canucks prospects pool.

The next move would see the Canucks aquire Steve Ott from Phoenix in exchange for Brandon Yip and the Tampa 3rd round pick previously aquired.  The Canucks had been eyeing Ott for quite a while and were finally able to land him.  Ott gives the Canucks some versatility on their 3rd and 4th lines along with some gritty play for the playoff run.

The Canucks then picked up defender Robert Scuderi from Ottawa for a 4th round pick.  Another reliable veteran dman who can add some depth to the 3rd d pairing.  He has some good playoff experience that will help the Canucks on their run.

Being tight to the cap and with the addition of Scuderi the Canucks had some depth to move a dman.  Unfortunately that meant Barret Jackman stay with the Canucks was cut short.  He was sent to Dallas for prospect Justin Holl.  The move give the Canucks a little wiggle room to add some more depth up front.

The Canucks will continue to look for some more forward depth in their quest for the cup.
