The Utah Mammoth arrive!

SALT LAKE CITY (AP)  Formerly the Arizona Coyotes, the newly monikered Utah Mammoth have settled into Salt Lake City for the upcoming season.

Former Pittsburgh Penguins owner Gary Brown was coaxed out of retirement to run the reconstituted franchise.

Brown told reporters, "I looked under the hood, kicked the tires, and liked what I saw.  There are many strengths on the roster counterweighted by some weaknesses, but the foundation is there for success in the future.  Just as I did in Pittsburgh, I want players who play all three zones.  A 3-2 victory is a win in the standings, same as a 9-0 blowout.  Every game, be it at home or on the road, is an opportunity to put two points on the board.  Making the playoffs is a must, certainly for this upcoming season."

"And we will not be trading draft picks.  My teams always build for the future and we build from within," he added.

Brown made an immediate impact by drafting the much heralded Czech defenseman Radim Mrtka with the 15th overall pick in the MRFHL entry draft:  "Geez, this kid is 6'6", 207 lbs, and he has the wingspan of a superbomber.  He plays both offense and defense with equal zeal, and already has a known presence on the ice playing for the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League.  And he's only 18.  Expect big things from Radim in the years to follow."
