Capitals 2026 Deadline
2026-03-18As the Washington Capitals approached the trade deadline they developed a goal for this year's deadline. They determined as they have stated many times before that the team was stuck in the middle of the league. Although the team had some pretty good results in the playoffs team General Manager Slocum did not feel that the same results would continue until major changes were made.
We this in mind the Capitals headed into trade deadline with the main goal to try and make as many changes as they could, with the goal being to change the future of the organization. The deadline brought five trades, not near as many as they had hoped but still it was a start. The Capitals saw six players leave the organization. Some very important players like, Mika Zibanejad. Justin Faulk and Johnatan Quick. So our leading scorer, our number one defenseman and our 1a goaltender. We also saw acouple farm hands moved, Jimmy Vesey and Dennis Cholowski and defensive forward Oscar Sundqvist. Sadly we also sent our number one pick in 2027 to St Louis. Now the Capitals can only hope that they got a fair return on these assets.
In return the Capitals will see more youth and additional four mid range draft picks. Aside from players coming back for salary purposes like, Max Pacioretty, Damon Severson and Austin Watson. The Capitals added Mattew Coronato, a young proven scorer that should be a good piece to rebuild around. The team also added prospects: Kenny Connors, Lina Cagnoni, Helge Grans, Malcoml Spence and Teddy Multryn. All of which have potential and should help buils a positive and winning future.
Losing the players like Mika and Justin and Johnatan and our number one pick in 2027 will really hurt the Capitals in the near term, we feel the long term will beifit from the added prospect, draft picks and young player we have added. We hope that the upcoming draft is as deep as everyone says and the the additional pick generate some diamonds from the rough. We know that this cannot be the end of the re-build as the is still much more to do and we are ready to make the chages needed to get Washington to the top.
So we know that our great fans will undstand what we are trying to do and will contine to stand beside us and support us as we move fore. We also would like to wish the players that we traded all the best, that is except against the Capitals.

Kirk, you took this group as far as they could go — right to the Stanley Cup Finals. Good on you for pulling the trigger and making a move towards the future. Here's hoping that 2027 1st lands right at the end of the draft order.
