Oilers vs. Avalanche

2009-04-02

The Edmonton Oilers will be playing the Colorado Avalanche in Round 1 of the MRFHL  Playoffs.  The Oilers finished 6th in the Western Conference with 99 points, the Avalanche only finished 9 points ahead of the Oilers who won the Division Title this year.  The Oilers made a big move right around trade deadline bringing in Heatley and Doan and they have turned this team around. Edmonton won 9 in a row before loosing to the Power Flyers 5-4 on the last day of the season. So the club went 9-1-0 in there last 10 games as they go into the playoffs on a hot note.  During that Stretch the Oilers played the Avalanche and beat them, so they know if they play good they have a good chance of defeating the Aves.  Malkin who won the Art Ross Trophy and Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy will be relied upon.  He was the Teams MVP he had a great year and should be tough to shutdown in the playoffs.  Doan, Smyth, Hemsky, Heatley, Spezza fill out the top 2 lines, which are expected to produce some offense. Peca and Draper were brought in to shutdown the teams good lines as they will play on the 3rd and 4th lines, and Penalty killing lines. The Oilers will try to become the 1st team in MRFHL franchise history to win 2 cups in the Leagues.  The Oilers won there 1st cup, in year 1 and last year was a disapointing year as they never made the playoffs, but now are back in it and ready to bring home another cup!
