Hawks Make Shocking Deal

2009-08-04

At his usual morning press conference GM Todd Semonick rocked the MRFHL when he announced the dealing of superstar center Anze Kopitar. Kopitar was sent to the New York Rangers in exchange for super stud prospect Victor Hedman in what can only be described as a shockingly surprising move. While there were grumblings about Kopitar potentially being available, no one expected a move would actually be made this season. It was however known that eventually something had to give down the middle for the Hawks, as they had what could be called 4 franchise centers. "We had a gridlock down the middle, and this deal brings us potentially a once in a decade type player in Victor Hedman. Long term this is a move that will make a ton of sense for our franchise" said Semonick.

The move is the 2nd huge deal in the past week for last seasons champions, who continue to retool their team heading into next season. Already several large pieces of that team have been moved:

Erik Cole was sent packing for 2 draft picks which netted the team prospects Ethan Werek and Philippe Paradis

Anton Volchenkov was shipped out for Cal O'reilly and the pick that landed Jordan Schroeder

Andrej Meszaros was moved along with Keith Yandle and Ville Leino for stud prospects Jordan Eberle, Kevin Shattenkirk and Chris Stewart

With the salary cap ever looming Hawks management has moved made schrewd pre emptive moves to ensure the team remains a power for years to come, "We've added pieces that will be huge cost effective parts of our team in the next 3 seasons, as it stands we have the internal depth to replace the parts we've sent out".

It is believed the Hawks will now seek a checking centre to fill the now open 4th line job on the big club.
