Miller Time

2011-11-22

The Boston Bruins continued to tweak their organization throughout the off season. Throughout the year the Bruins GM Valente made multipule trades to move out contracts in favour of cap space, picks and prospects. The result was a favourable off-season and free agency period for the Bruins organization.

Bruins biggest free agent acquistion was signing  Ryan Miller to a 4 year 9 million dollar deal. "We feel Ryan will be able to bring us to the next level. Last year we were very inconsistent in net rotating through various goaltenders."  After the depatrue of Ilya Bryzgalov the Bruins found themselves rotating tandem Michael Neuvirth and Chris Mason throughout the remainder of the season. With the acquistion of Ryan Miller this will allow for Neuvirth to learn and grow into his role as the organizations future goaltender.

The Bruins also acquired playmaking forward Alex Tanguay, scorer Kristian Huselius and steady defensemen Jaroslav Spacek during the free agency frenzy. "We feel that these players with their work ethic and experiece will help out younger players to grow in the coming years."

The Bruins organization will need many teachers for so many young, up and coming pupils. The 2011 Entry Draft was deemed a huge sucess for Boston as they re-stocked the shelves with the likes of : Mikka Zibanejad, Mark Schiefele, Ryan Murphy, Jonas Brodin, Vladislav Namestinikov, Matthew Puempel, Christopher Gibson and Magnus Hellberg.

The Boston Bruins off-season overhaul began with the firing of Correy Clouston and ended with the hiring of Claude Julien.
Julein will have his work cut out for him as the Bruins are off to a slow start - with such high expectations on them this year nothing short of a winning club will suffice for GM Valente.

Rumor Mill:

With 12 games played into the young 2012 season the Bruins have been caught still hibernating. Off to a 3-7-2 start GM Valente is already working the phones to shake things up. It has been rumored that he has been scouring the league for some bottom line help and a quality defender. Reports suggest he has been shopping some vets and prospects with Ryan Murphys name being suggested as a possible candidate to be dealt.
