Oilers GM search comes to an end

2012-04-13

The media room is packed with reporters as owner Daryl Katz sit at the podium, next to the new General Manager of the MRFHL Edmonton Oilers, Devin MacAulay.

Katz: First I'd like to officiallly thank Mr. Hudson for the tremendous job he did as interim GM of the team but we both felt that we should move in another direction and on behalf of the Edmonton Oilers  I would like to formally  announce our new General Manager of the team, Devin MacAulay. We interviewed many qualified candidates for the position and I'd also like to thank them for their time but ultimately we felt as an organization, that Mr. MacAulay most emplified the direction we which to take the tteam.

MacAulay: Thanks very much Daryl, and I would like express how thrilled I am to be apart of this organization and this league. I have a wealth of experience to draw upon but I'm also surrounded by a tremendous staff here that I look forward to working with. Before I open the floor to questions I'd first like to lay out to the fans of this team what my expecations of this team are for now and in the future. The reason I was brought in here is to create a winning franchise  but as important is that we stay competitive year in and year out. I have a duty to ensure that I seek out players that are not just talented guys but that also want to put on the jersey every night and compete for both the team and the fans.

Reporter 1: As you're well aware the trade deadline is fastly approaching on April 30th, have you had any time to consider any sort of moves you'd like to make?

MacAulay: Obviously when dealing with a team at the top of the standings like we are you must be weary of making any changes that could disrupt the teams morale and I certainly won't be naming any players specifically today that I'd consider available. However that being said, there are some area's I'd like to improve upon.

Reporter 2: Could you name some of those areas?

MacAulay:  Well for starters, our defense is one of the top ranked in the league, thanks in large part to our tremendous goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and also our defence core and responsible forwards. Ours goals for however, is among the lowest in the league so perhaps some more scoring might be needed.  On the same note, I wouldn't mind improving our power play and also getting a little more physical.

Reporter 3: Does that mean we can expect you to atleast bring in a couple new faces?

MacAulay: Not necessarily, a lot of those things can be in house. I haven't had a chance yet but I'd like to sit down with John (Tortorella) and discuss his views on the team before I do anything. Again though, I'm open to all inquiries as well as keeping a close eye as to what the other teams in the league are doing. Thanks a lot guys.
