Max Talbot heads to Ottawa

2012-08-14

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Ottawa finally kicked off its Free Agency season this evening when Max Talbot agreed to a 4 year contract worth a reported 16 million dollars. The contract breaks down to a 4 million dollar cap hit and provides the Senators with a very versatile forward who is excellent in his own end and not only a strong penalty killer but also a scoring threat short handed.

"Max is a player that this organization looked very highly upon because he offers so much to our lineup. His ability to play all three forward positions gives us a great deal of flexibility and he is one of the best shutdown forwards and penalty killers in the league. Max is a guy who you can send out there to shutdown the top offensive players in the league and give them someting to think about because of his ability create scoring opportunities even when he is playing shorthanded."

When GM Todd Westacott was asked if this was the splash he had hoped to make trhough free agency he had the following comments.

"I dont think we ever came into this free agency period looking to make a splash on one player. Max Talbot was a very important piece in our offseason plan but we are by no means finished and still have some holes to fill. There are still a number of players we are looking at with some time still left in the free agency market. If we have the opportuntity to add another big piece we will do so. If not then we will concentrate on depth and look to fill any remaining holes through trade."

We will keep you updated on any other signings that the Ottawa Senators might make in the next few days.
