President's Choice

2012-10-06

The Boston Bruin's President and General Manager met with President Obama at charity fundraiser held in Boston over the weekend. With the Presidential racing sweeping across America it was business as usual for the Bruins GM asked a plethora of questions about the Bruins upcoming season.

The Boston Bruin's are gearing up for another season in the MRFHL. Every year the hockey mad city of Boston expects their team to go deep into the playoffs. The failure of last year hangs over the Bruins dressing room like a black cloud. "We know we came up short, we want to use it as motivation for the next season." said Jonathan Toews.

Over the course of the off season the Bruins organization successfully signed the Sedin twins to keep them in Boston for the next 4 years. Retained the services of arguably one of the best defencemen in the league in Shea Weber and brought in some fresh faces to replenish the lineup.

Since their arrival the Twins never seemed comfortable with their new surroundings. To remedy this the Bruins brought in fellow countryman and friend Mikael Samuelsson who will start the season on a line with the Sedins. "We know the change from Minnesota to the hockey hungry city of Boston can be big step and we hope with Mikael here they will aclimatize alot better." We asked if he would separate the Sedins, GM Valente simply stated "Thats a coaching decisions".

The Bruins addressed their need for depth on the back end by signing Johnny Oduya and grity defender Rob Scuderi. Up front the Bruins made a splash by aquiring rugged forward and leader Shane Doan. "Shane is a guy who can contribute on and off the ice, he will give you 110% every night , his leadership in the dressing room is something we feel our organization can use." .

With high expectations and unrelenting public opinion, it seems both President Obama and Valente both have their work cut out for them. The Bruins are not pushing the panic button yet despite being winless in pre-season but GM Valente hinted he might start looking to fix some defensive defficiencies in order to avoid the horrible start or a repeat of last season.
