Hawks add to impressive stable with yet another excellent draft.

2013-07-17

1st Round, 20th Overall

Curtis Lazar, C, 6'1 190.   72 GP, 38 G, 23 A, 61PTS, 47 PIM, +25 (Edmonton, WHL)

With their first pick the Hawks were excited to see Lazar fall to them at 20. He is an excellent two way forward who plays a gritty game. He also has offensive upside especially in the goal scoring department.

NHL Comparable: Logan Couture

1st Round, 30th Overall

Adam Erne, W, 6'1 210. 68GP, 28G, 44A, 72PTS, 67PIM, +11 (Quebec, QMJHL)

With their 2nd first rounder in the draft the Hawks snagged winger Adam Erne. An excellent skater with a big frame, physicality and goal scoring ability he projects to be a power forward at the next level.

NHL Comparable: Taylor Hall

2nd Round, 32nd Overall

Tyler Johnson, C/W, 5'9 175. 62GP, 37G, 28A, 65PTS, 34PIM, +26 (Norfolk, AHL)

The best player in the AHL last season, Johnson had produced at every level.  He lacks size, but is smart, fast and fearless. If his production continues he will be the steal of the draft.

NHL Comparable: Jordan Eberle

2nd Round, 43rd Overall

Dillon Heatherington, D, 6'3 196. 71GP, 4G, 23A, 27PTS, 80PIM, +25 (Swift Current, WHL)

A big mobile defenceman Heatherington doesnt bring much offence to the table, but he moves the puck efficiently and is excellent in his own end. Projects to be a shutdown defenceman.

NHL Comparable: Braydon Coburn

2nd Round, 55th Overall

Dalton Prout, D, 6'3 219, 28 GP, 1G, 6A, 7PTS, 25PIM, +15. (Columbus, NHL)
