Panthers Draft (2013 Edition) Part 2

2013-07-29

99th Overall Pick

Petter Granberg, Defenseman, Skellefteå

Born: August 27th, 1992 Gallivare, Sweden

HT: 6’3 WT: 209 lbs

GM’s Take:

“After picking two guys who were the youngest in the draft, we went to the opposite side of the spectrum and picked a guy who has been passed up the last three drafts.  Granberg is definitely further along in development than the other guys, not even including the fact that he is older. He is a big defenseman who plays a safe game, and can play a pretty physical game.  We’ve been impressed with his play at the international level the last two years.  We really expect him to be competing for a roster spot in the next year or two.”

111th Overall Pick

Robin Norell, Defenseman, Djurgården J20

Born: February 18th, 1995 Stockholm, Sweden

HT: 5’11 WT: 192 lbs

GM’s Take:

“Another Swede, and another defenseman. He is a very long term project in this system. Playing with Djurgarden, gives him a very good system to come from. We feel he has a chance at making Sweden for the World Juniors this year. He is another defensively capable guy, he is the smallest guy we have drafted so far and he won’t be putting up tons of points or running the powerplay. We expect him to stay in Sweden for the next three or maybe even four years.”

117th Overall Pick

Taylor Cammarata, Centre, Waterloo Black Hawks

Born: May 13th, 1995 Plymouth, Minnesota

HT: 5’7 WT: 157 lbs

GM’s Take:

“This might be our darkhorse pick of the draft. First thing to jump out at you, is size. That definitely will hinder him going forward, but we believe you can’t pass up talent like this. A former 1st overall pick in the USHL, and being named player of the year this year, how can you not like those accomplishments. He is going to the University of Minnesota where another one of our diminutive forwards play (Kyle Rau), and we can’t wait to see what he can accomplish there.”

124th Overall Pick

Myles Bell, Left Wing, Kelowna Rockets

Born: August 19th, 1993 Calgary, Alberta

HT: 6’0 WT: 210 lbs

GM’s Take:

“We believe in second chances, at that is what Myles has gotten, and he has done a great job with it. He converted from defense to the wing this season, and obviously it worked. He finished sixth in WHL scoring, with his hard slap shot doing a lot of the heavy lifting.  He has got immense talent and we really see him being a big part of this team in the future if he can continue to develop himself at the new position.”

133rd Overall Pick

Antoine Bibeau, Goalie, PEI Rocket

Born: January 5th, 1994 Victoriaville, Quebec

HT: 6’2 WT: 198 lbs

GM’s Take:

“We dealt Kevin Poulin this off-season, and even with Quick at the pro level; and Kuemper, Wedgewood and Korpisalo in the system, we felt we could add another goalie back in to the system. Antoine is a big goalie, who came in to his own this season stealing the number one job in PEI. He is probably the most long term project in the entire system, and really when you look at it, he has all the time in the world to develop in to a good goaltender at the pro level.”

134th Overall Pick

Jesse Lees, Defenseman, Kelowna Rockets

Born: September 14th, 1995 Calgary, Alberta

HT: 6’0 WT: 165 lbs

GM’s Take:

“Usually we are always pretty happy with our last pick in the draft, and this year in no different. Jesse is another one of those players who is literally just days away from being a 2014 draft pick. Jesse is a very solid puck moving defenseman, with some very good offensive instincts. He needs to add a bit of weight and work on his defensive game, but he is young. I honestly believe people will be kicking themselves next year that they didn’t draft him.”
