Devils Vs Rangers

2013-10-12

Devils and Rangers have one of the best rivalries in the NHL, the two teams cannot stand each other and on October 11 the fans watching at the Prudential Center or watching on TV witness a candidate for the game of the year.

Both teams entered the game with a record of 2-0, even this early into the year both teams were ready to play. Not even 1 minute into the game there was already a combined of 22 PIM. Ott set the tone early with a fight and the Devils took that momentum and ran with it outshooting the Rangers 14 to 3 in the 1st but only managed to score 1 on Fleury.

The second period started with the Rangers scoring early and dictating the pace of the period outshooting the Devils 17 to 9. However tempers started to flair with 3 fights in 7 minutes.

Going into the third the Rangers had a 2-1 lead but like the second the fights continued and so did the goals. With less than a minute left in the third the Rangers had the lead 4-3 when Lubomir Visnovsky scored a powerplay goal to send the game to overtime.

Overtime solved nothing as we went to a shootout, Alex Steen was the only goal scorer in the shootout to give the Rangers the win.

The final was 5-4 win for the Rangers. Both teams combined 108 PIM and Steve Ott from the Devils was suspended for 2 games.

“I need to control what I do on the ice better" said Ott, "I feel I let the team down but not being there to help in the OT and shootout"

" He plays the game with his heart on his sleeve and with all that happen in the game with some questionable hits, he did what he thought was right and protected our players" Maurice(coach of the Devils) said in his Press conference.

The Devils don’t play the Rangers for another 2 months but you can guarantee that the two teams will start where they left off.
