Hurricanes on the rebound

2013-10-28

The Carolina Hurricanes start the season with 6 wins and 4 losses .  The six game winning streak came to a end in cow town (Calgary) tonight. The team has already formed great chemistry as the Hurricanes revamped their roster this summer.  With the Alexei Ponikarovsky and David Booth trade, the only player left from when GM Cameron Grewal began his reign is Alex Semin. New coach John Tortorella has got his team motivated and so far has had no press-conference explosions yet. He has got his team playing very sound defensively so far with Carolina in top 5 in goals against, top 5 in shots against, and top 5 pk prior to today. The team is simply winning hockey games sooner then expected.

Alex Semin is having anthor all star year and Brandon Dubinsky and Danny Heatley are racking up the points playing next to him. What was not expected was the secondary scoring from Mikael Backlund and Ryan Clowe, who are on a point per a game pace as well. Newcomer David Booth had a great first game with the duo scoring a goal. The third line is producing especially rookie Sven Baertschi.  GM Cameron Grewal acquired Alexander Burmistrov for more depth at the forward position. The defense has been very solid so far in this season. Christian Ehrhoff has been great offensively but Dmitry Kulikov hasn’t lived up to the hype yet with only 2 points and Wiercioch has been good in his rookie year. Morris, Eriskine, Lilja have been sound defensively so far in the first 10 games. Corey Crawford has been brilliant in net, as he will be looking to cash in come summer.
