The Walking Dead

2013-11-02

As players walk of the ice there has been a dark cloud standing right along side of the bench. A few of the players have come up with the nick name the Grim Reaper for Mr.Canario since we are in the Halloween season. In just four days, the GM has traded away big names in Chris Pronger , Zack Rinado , Mark Giordano , Justin Willams and the biggest name and surprise of all Claude Giroux. You ask why this madness? Simply put our team sucked ! We were old , only had one superstar. One player does not make up a team. In rebuilding I'm going to acquire as much youth and picks as i can to bring this once great orgazition back to where it belongs. What if i kept the roster the way it was made the playoffs and where elimated in the first round everyone would be calling for my head! I am willing to tank for a year or two to make Detroit an elite team. Just look at the teams around the league , look at the Jets all these teams have top prospects that once they make it to the show they will be unstoppable!

Many of the fans are ok with what I am doing after seeing the return on the moves.

Eric Fehr
Year 8 - NYI - Round 3
Year 8 - STL - Round 3
Chris Pronger

In the Pronger trade getting back Feher and two third round picks in this up coming draft is huge for a player about to retire.

J.T. Miller
Year 8 - ANA - Round 2
Year 8 - SJS - Round 2
Shane Prince
Year 9 - SJS - Round 3
Mark Giordano

Mark Giordano netted a pretty hefty return in J.T. Miller who once he puts it together is going to be a top 6 forward , Shane Price is very quick and has good bursts of speed and is very elusive on the ice. More of a play maker and makes a lot of good plays in the offensive zone. , also two second round picks in this years draft and a third in next years .

Justin Williams
Year 8 - DET - Round 4
Prospect: Anthony Duclair
Year 9 - NYR - Round 1
Andrei Kostitsyn

Todays trade of Justin Willams brought back Anthony Dunclair who as a 16 year old was looking like a top 5 pick in last years draft, Anthony had a few problems his next few years that made him fall further then he thought he would, but that has not stopped him this year he has come out blazing this year and is showing why he should have been in that top 5. Also we received Andrei Kostitsyn and a first in next years draft .

Then there was yesterdays trade and biggest surprise of all. After shaking hands on a deal the league void it saying Det did not get enough back Bos Gm rang my phone right away and said ill add another first and Moore , once again we agreed. The final trade looked like this

Year 8 - BUF - Round 1
Year 8 - MTL - Round 1
Year 8 - NYI - Round 2
Year 8 - BUF - Round 3
Prospect: Duncan Siemens
Prospect: Sebastian Collberg
John Moore
Claude Giroux
Zac Rinaldo

This one trade alone has re stocked a barren prospect list. The two first round picks , one second and one third should bring in even more talent.

In Duncan Siemens i see a player who once he gets use to the pace and speed is going to use his big 6'3 Frame and be a Shutdown defenseman who can play against the other teams top line.

John Moore is a player who has elite skating and shooting. He can have a hard time in his own end but his calling card is a top 4 d man with blazing speed and a shot that can put up points on the PP or 5 on 5

Duncan Collberg is very skilled forward with great wheels. Doesn't shy away from the high-traffic areas and knows where to go to score goals. Initiates contact with defenseman and has excellent one-on-one moves. Posesses an elite wristshot, which he can release in a hurry with great accuracy and velocity.
Needs to add more bulk to withstand the physical game at the men's level. Lacks ideal frame and defensive play needs improvement.

Everyone is believing that there is a future again in Det , Even if they have a farm team out on the ice!
