A Fairy-tale Town....No more!

2013-11-23

Call it a Stanley Cup hangover, but the Florida Panthers are not where they want to be. After winning the title last year, the team from South Beach have been slow out of the gate sitting at a meager 10-10-3 record.  So that has caused some significant changes in Florida.

First thing first was giving the Head coach, seemingly which can be seen as the ‘kiss of death’. “Marc’s job is safe. He won us a cup last year, and the problem doesn’t sit with him. This team needs to step it up or it will be others that will pay the price,” said GM Wilson.

And others did pay the price.  The first move saw defending Vezina winner Jonathan Quick moved out the door for highly touted prospect Jonathan Drouin and goalie Devan Dubnyk. A move that it seems caught everyone by surprise. “Man I can’t believe they did that! I know Lebron is great, but you got have support for him man, this isn’t the right move………..HOCKEY?! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?” said a clearly drugged out Florida resident Scott March.

The moves did not stop there. After spending the last few years in Florida, the Schenn brothers were moved out to the cold tundra’s of Calgary (where apparently it’s ok to employ a guy who beats and kidnaps people) for veteran winger Joffrey Lupul and young defenseman Justin Faulk. Then they hooked up frequent trading partner and fellow member of the Globex Corporation GTA crew, the Pittsburgh Penguins; sending Jonathan Huberdeau for Nazem Kadri. “Moving both Huby and the Schenns was tough, but I firmly believe that the three players we brought in help us more than the three moved out. We need to right this ship, and hopefully this puts us back in the right direction.”

The moves kept on moving, but this time it was a little more surprising by placing Saku Koivu on waivers, who was then claimed by the Hurricanes. “We’re disappointed that it didn’t work out as well as we had hoped. There just wasn’t a spot on the roster anymore and we knew if we looked we could have got something for him, but it was best to cut ties there.”

The moves don’t seem to have stopped there. As recently as yesterday; Mikko Koivu, Rick Nash and Justin Faulk’s names have all been linked to the rumour wire. Whether a next move will be coming remains to be seen.
