The best trades are the ones that didn't happen?

2014-03-13
Some might say the Canucks trade deadline was like a lot of oysters but no pearls. There was lots of talk but not as many deals as they intended. The deals that were available didnt make sense short or long term and would have been ones you would probably regret in the long run. Although they were able to make three deals they ended up with no changes to their roster. The one moved they had lined up to make fell through so the dominos didnt fall. The Canucks Gm was left holding the bag. They were able to move waiver wire pick up Todd Bertuzzi for a pick, sent a pick for Willie Mitchell and acquired Pekka Rinne for picks and prospects. Because their intended deal didn't happen they were forced to put Mitchell on waivers where he was picked up by Toronto. To make matters worse Rinne has had Visa issues which will probably not get resolved until season end. Essentially the roster the Canucks went into the day with is the one they walked out with. Although they have had an up and down year, with the horses they do have they should be able to make another run for the cup. Watch out higher seeded teams because the Canucks are coming.
