Hawks make a splash at deadline, add Steen.

2014-03-14

Amidst what can be dubbed one of the most dissapointing seasons in the history of he MRFHL, the Chicago Blackhawks surprisingly made a move to bolster their lineup at the deadline adding star winger Alexander Steen from the New York Rangers. The Hawks sent center Brandon Sutter, prospect Jason Zucker, and a draft pick to New York in exchange for Steen. "Obviously this season has not gone the way we wanted it to, on paper we have the best team in the league, and we are dwelling in the depths of the basement, it is ridiculous." said GM Semonick. Despite speculation Semonick refused to blow up his talented team, insisting this season was an anomaly. "Some people were speculating we would do something stupid (dump Jeff Carter). Making panic moves will never be in the cards as long as I am at the helm of this team, I believe we have built a powerhouse franchise, a system of development, and a collection of people that any team would love to have." Adding steen gives the team another formidable player, and one who is under contract at a very reasonable price beyond this season. He can play center or wing, kill penalties and chip in offence. He will be an invaluable piece for Chicago next season. Sutter was an important contributor, but with the likes of Nick Bonino and Ryan Johansen ready to assume key roles with the team, one that the Hawks could afford to move.

Going into the offseason the team has some key questions to answer, will Daniel Alfredsson return? What will the blueline look like with no less than 15 top notch players vying for 6 spots? Further the team has a plethora of picks heading into the draft, it should be an exciting offseason in Chicago
