UFA Hunting season opens today

Rangers General Manager wasted little time this monring going after what he believes are three key pieces integral to help the team now AND support the rebuilding efforts.

"The players we reached out to, we feel, are model citizens both on and off the ice. Individuals that are true professionals in how they conduct themselves in every facet of their lives. Men that we want our younger players to look to when trying to find out how to go about preparing for their professional careers."

"I believe that these are the kinds of players that teams win with. Charachter players that play a 200 ft game. The commitment that these players have is the kind fo commitment I want to see from the kids in the system. And I believe that it's of the utmost importance to have those types of individuals populate the roster."

"We know that being in a rebuilding situation it could sway some players away from our direction, we understand that. But this is not a short term solution to a long term problem. The guys we reached out to are part of the long term vision we have here in New York. A vision we hope they share"
