Bruins Draft Preview

2016-07-25

Heading into the 2016 MRFHL Draft the Bruins have been working the phones in order to acquire players, prospects and picks. One GM who has asked to remain annonomous has gone as far to suggest everyone is on the table " Right now, they are listening to all offers. Mr.Flair and Mr. Valente have been listening to all offers. Yeah some players are likley not going to move but I mean they are listening."

Leading up to the draft the Bruins picked up 21 year old Damon Severson. The Bruins have high hopes that Damon will bud into a top pairing defender in the next few years but they arn't going to rush him. The Bruins moved out steady, hard hitting Alexei Emelin in order to provide Severson with more minutes. Flair commented briefly on the Emelin to Washington trade: "We are going to miss Al, hes was the grit and sandpaper of our back end but we need to open up more minutes and give our other guys an opportunity."

General Manager Flair shared some insights to what has transpired over the past week "We are looking at all our options, including acquiring draft picks in this year or next. We need to focus on signing a few key pieces including Jake. (Voracek) Our team still has some needs - I wouldn't mind adding another vet to help out some of our youngsters."

The Bruins look like they will continue to build through the draft as they have previous years however it seems they will be opting for players that might take longer as they have complied mostly late round picks. GM Flair doesn't feel this year's draft is as strong as previous years "Not that there arn't some talented kids in this draft be we don't see any of ther WOOO factor as in previous years. We feel we can still get some solid high potential players in the later rounds of this years draft."

It seems the Bruins are looking to shake things up heading into the draft. There is a erriee calm that has come over the league. Could this be the calm before the storm or will this 2016 Draft be anti-clamactic? Time will tell.
