Looking forward to Playoffs

2017-03-24

The New York Rangers have been unusually quite during the season as it pertains to roster movement. That all changed at the deadline as they added Scott Hartnell, Jason Pominville, Johnny Odyua and Nikita Kucherov.

The GM was asked what the thought process was behind making these moves while o top of the MRFHL Standings, he responded

"The boys have played great this year and deserve to be in the position that they are in. It's my job to recognize when and where we can improve and see what can be done to make that happen. The playoffs provide a brand of hockey where I don't think you can have enough sandpaper to your game, so being able to bring in a Scott Hartnell I thought adds yet another layer of that for the team. Marcus Kruger is going to be a solifd player for the Ducks, but we like the move. Pominville is a smart veteran player that knows how to score goals. Taking nothing away from Jamie, Pominville has been a guy that you can rely on for 20-30 goals throughput his career. This season he seems a bit snake bitten, but we think the change of scenery may be just the right thing for him. The great thing about this move is that he's not going ot be asked to do anything more than he is capable of. Rounding out the defence was a key target for the deadline and having the ability to add another Veteran player in Odyua was real important. We like our depth on D one thru six as we feel they are all good skaters that can move the puck well out of the zone and get the forward in transition."

The last reported deal was a doozy. the announcement that the Rangers had aqcquired Nikita Kucherov sent shock waves through the MRFHL. The message was clear the New York Rangers want to win the MRCHL Championship.

"When you are in the position we are in and have the ability to add a player like this without moving anyone off the roster, you have to seriously consider making that move. No doubt we parted with a special prospect in Matty Tkachuk, but Kucherov is still a very young man and is what we hope that Matty would have become. In essence we advanced the developement aspect of the player and brought in a legit top line sniper. Having the ability to compliment Zibanejad and Landeskog with a player like Nikita was a deal we could not pass up. That said, we feel that Matty Tkachuk is such a special player that the only deal we would have considered would have been a deal like this. If we were not getting a special player in return, we would not have made the deal. We wish Marcus Kruger, Jamie McGinn, Matthew Tkachuk and the other prospects that we traded away all the best in their new situations."
