Edmonton makes final cuts

2017-10-16

The oilers have submitted their 23 man roster, 14 forwards and 7 defence, 2 goalies for opening night. Cuts made at the start of camp saw Vets, Berra, Bobkov, Sill, Zajac, Ennis, Prosser, Ellerby, Staal, Butler, Purcell, Booth, Morin, Flynn, and Coloacovo sent down to the minors. all successfully cleared waivers and will play for the condors this year.

Youngsters Andrighetto, Karlsonn, and Curtis Mckenzie were given hard looks at camp to see if they were ready to make the jump. Karlsonn has successfully grabbed an opening night roster spot after scoring 96 points in 60 games last year in the AHL. Andrighetto and Mckenzie were assigned to Bakersfield earlier today.

Assigning Andrighetto to Bakersfield had many pundits shocked, as he was seen as a possible breakout candidate for this season.

"We felt Svens talents would be wasted on the fourth line, he is very much a top 9 player. We will see him in the NHL this year, when injuries inevitably happen. We were thrilled with his camp." Said GM Bratihwaite

Mckenzie failed to impress at camp, and lost his spot to Carl Soderberg.

Other cuts made were Kulak, Wotherspoon, Ruhdwedel, Everberg, Boucher, Arnold, and Sekac.

The oilers lines have been submitted, and will look as the following

Gaudreau-O'Reilly-Steen
Laine-Eichel-Gagner
Jarnkrok-Backlund-Reinhart
Soderberg-Karlsonn-Tlustly

ex. Raffl, Lebanc

Brodie-Ristolainen
Muzzin-Pesce
Erhoff-Johns

ex. Cundari

Bobrovsky
Hellebuyck

"We feel we have assembled the best roster in the division, It's tough to watch rivals in Calgary and Vancouver have successful, cup contending teams. This year we feel we will be in that class with them." GM Braithwaite had told the press

Looking at the top end talent, the depth, and the seemingly kink free roster that has been assembled, it's hard to argue with him.
