Hawks Add Russian Star Kaprizov

2018-03-15

He is very likely the best player not in the NHL, he has dominated at the WJC, the Olympics, and in the KHL. No one is questioning Kirill Kaprizov's ability. He compares favorably to both Artemi Panarin and Evgeni Kuznetsov, and if he elects to play in the NHL he would be an immediate impact player. There however is the big 'if' with this player, will he choose to play in North America? GM Semonick and the Hawks clearly were willing to gamble on it, sending Tyler Parsons, Tomas Nosek, and a 3rd round pick to Edmonton for the Russian's rights. With one of the deepest rosters in the league it is a gamble that makes sense for the Hawks, adding a potential star for players who were mostly blocked from becoming contributors on the pro roster. Hopefully it will be the first of many deadline moves for the inexplicably struggling team from Chicago.
