WASHINGTON REBUILD IS ON OR MAYBE ALL DONE
2023-03-28The Capitals were put out for dead on January 11, 2023 by their GM. At that point the teams was playing poorly and in the middle of the pack. With a record of 16 / 12 / 2 GM Slocum made an announcement to the media that a re-build was in order and efforts would start right away. Over the following weeks GM Slocum moved out some significant talent; Barclay Goodrow, Adrian Kempe, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Taylor Hall as well as others. Follow these moves on January 24th the Capitals started a 14 game win streak putting the team securely into a playoff position. Following the January 11th notice the team’s record has been 25 / 5 / 2. Also at this time a goalie change was made were Jonathan Quick was replaced as stater by Philipp Grubauer, who was picked up off waivers.
So as a result of the teams performance the GM has changed direction to help support the improved play. A few veterans have been brought in, players like; Ryan McDonagh, Barclay Goodrow was brought back, Andrew Copp, Zdeno Chara and James van Riemsdyk. Hopefully the improved performance of players here and these additions will be enough for the Capitals to go deep into the playoffs.
