The Winnipeg Jets and the Florida Panthers made a deal on the 1st night of Free Agency.  The Jets bolstered up there lineup by upgrading on Defence and Forward for the upcoming season and possibly years.

Jets shipped out Jordan Eberle,Henri Jokiharju, Roman Kansterov and Nikita Artamonov to Florida.  In Return the Jets Recieve:  Ilya Mikheyev and Michael Anderson.

"First of all it was tough to let Eberle go.  It was his 2nd stint with the team and we wish we could of kept him around but the Salary Cap came into effect here and we had to move some out in this particular deal."  Says Schurman.

"We were lacking a top 4 D man on our squad and with not much cap room, we knew we may have a hard time in Free Agency wth no money to spend on one.  Why we had to clear up a contract to get that top 4 guy.  Which brings me to Mikey Anderson.  He will play a solid role on our club.  He is a Great 2nd Pairing Defender, he is angreat defensive, puck moving defender.  Blocks alot of shots, trusted in all situations and can play around 22 minutes a night."  Says Schurman.

Anderson has 4 years left on his contract at a 6.25M cap hit.

"Now onto Mikheyev.  He has alot of skill to play in the middle 6, good speed and a great Defensive game as well.  His 2 way play will make the Jets a strong club, having most of our roster set now.  I feel good with the Season Cominup up, we lost in the Conference Finals last year.  Our Goal is to get back there and advance to the Finals this time around!  Then anything can happen..  "smiled Schurman.

Mikheyev only has a 1 year left on his contract, making him a UFA at seasons end.  A Rental move by the Jets in helping this season and then clearing up a bit more cap space again next year.
