Potential Goalie Controversy

2026-10-13
The Vegas Golden Knights continue their abysmal play early this season. Even after installing a new bench boss and actively trying to shift toward a bigger, heavier lineup, the results remain entirely unchanged. While management recognized that a course correction was desperately needed, their adjustments have seemingly done nothing more than put another quarter into a broken merry-go-round.
???? Special Teams Special Disaster
You simply cannot win hockey games in this league with specialty units this dysfunctional. Through seven games, the Golden Knights' power play is a pathetic 1-for-26 (a minor-league-level 3.8%){C}. Conversely, the penalty kill offers absolutely zero relief. Operating at a 74.1% success rate (allowing 8 goals on 31 disadvantages){C}, the unit currently ranks as the fourth-worst in the league. No matter what tactical tweaks the coaching staff implements, nothing is clicking.{C}

???? The Crease Conundrum & A Stalled Trade Market{C}
Finding stability between the pipes has been a massive hurdle. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (UPL){C} stumbled out of the gate, playing his way to a 1-3 record with a ballooned 3.25 GAA{C} over four starts.{C}
That opening allowed Jakub Dobeš{C} to seize the crease, but the challenger hasn't fared much better. Over his three appearances, Dobeš has skated to a 1-2 record with a 2.68 GAA. Rumors swirl that General Manager Hubacher is actively trying to trade one of his netminders, but it begs an ugly question: at this point, who would even want them?
Hubacher appears completely at a loss for words on how to steady the ship. It raises an uncomfortable question among the fanbase—is the architect of this roster simply no longer the right man for the job? Are the Knights just running into an elite early-season schedule, or are they simply a bad hockey team?
???? Kucherov Isolated on Offense; Blue Line Blunders
The lone bright spot in the desert is predictably Nikita Kucherov, who has carried the offense on his back with 11 points in 7 games. Beyond him, secondary scoring is non-existent; remarkably, no other player on the entire roster has scored more than two goals this season.
Meanwhile, the defensive corps is battling its own demons. Charle-Édouard D'Astous has been a penalty-box machine and was on the verge of being scratched in favor of rookie Ryker Evans. However, those plans were derailed after Émile Lilleberg suffered a finger injury, forcing a tight rotation. Line shuffles are undoubtedly on the horizon as the staff scrambles for answers.
???? The Outlook
Right now, nobody seems to know what is broken or how to patch the holes. But in this current simulation run, GM Hubacher looks just as clueless as the rest of us.
