Rangers add forward and defence

The New York Rangers have announced the signings of Defenceman Hal Gill and forward Jochen Hecht.

"We are excited to be adding the final piece to the puzzle on defence in Hal Gill. With the summer acquisitions of both Paul Martin and Robyn Regher and now the addition of Gill, we feel that we have solidified our top 6 on defence and feel comfortable knowing that have the ability to defend well in our own zone while at the same time, continue to be a dangerous presence on the offensive side of the puck. We have a few guys back there that know how to play the position from a positional standpoint as well as from a physical standpoint and we consider ourselves ver fortunate to have been able to sign this man."

In order to make some of the moves we made to solidify our defence, we moved some of the extra forwards we had and felt that we needed to replace some scoring. We are fortunate enough to have been able to lure Jochen Hecht away from the Atlanta Thrashers to sign here in New York. We envision Jochen Hecht playing an integral role on one of the top two lines here in NY and we look to utilize his ability to play both LW and Center as we mix and match to find the proper combination to take on the 2010-2011 season. Hecht is a player that can sometimes go un-noticed until the game is over and he's got 2 assists. These are the kineds of players that help teams win championships."

We are looking at ways to address the right side at forward. We have a few irons in the fire and hope that we can get something done soon to see what out team looks like as a complete entity.
