Hawks Acquire Top Dman

2010-10-21

The Chicago Blackhawks today added a major piece to the puzzle on their back end. The team landed all-star blueliner Ryan Suter from the Calgary Flames in exchange for defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson and prospect Emerson Etem. It has long been rumoured the team was looking to beef up its already star studded blueline, and this deal no doubt accomplishes this.

"It was a difficult deal to make as we parted with two players we believe have very bright futures, but when you add a good piece generally you need to move one in return."

Suter will likely pair with Jack Johnson on the teams 2nd pair. The Hawks now have a very enviable group on the back end and the pairs will look as follows:

Keith-Bouwmeester

Suter-Johnson

Edler-Coburn

Girardi

It is believed the team may be shopping the solid Girardi as he has now been forced from the top-6. The team also has several very talented young dmen knocking on the door including Victor Hedman, Kevin Shattenkirk, Matt Taormina and others.
