Corey Perry Dealt

The New York Rangers have traded RW Corey Perry to the Colorado Avalanche for winger Wayne Simmonds, prospect Derek Stepan and the NYR 1st round pick in 2011

"This was not an easy decision to make. We really like the way that Corey Perry plays the game and we wish him the very best in Colorado, however, we also recognize that we needed to pare some salary now and for the future, so that we can retain some players here. Additionally, we have had our eye on Stepan and while he was here previously, we felt it important enough to make sure that he was part of this trade. Simmonds is a guy that plays the game much in the same way as Perry, but Wayne's offense isn't as developed yet."

"We also upgraded our defence with the acquisition of Daniel Girardi. Gormley is a great prospect and we expect enormous things from him, but we do not see that happening for at least another 2-3 years. Girardi is going to help us compete for the MRFHL Cup this year and beyond. We're excited to have him on the roster."
