Hawks add another Stewart.

2010-11-02

The Hawks, very active lately on the trade front, made another deal today. The team added Anthony Stewart, the elder brother of Hawks star Chris Stewart as well as prospect Alex Petrovic this afternoon. In exchange the Hawks shipped out defenceman Ben Lovejoy, as well as a 4th round pick in next summer's draft. "We are sad to see Ben leave our organization, however this deal brings us a very promising prospect, and a player in Anthony who has intriguing upside."

Stewart, like his brother has terrific size at 6'2 230 lbs. A former 1st round pick Stewart has toiled in in the minors the past few years, this year however he has shown some of the potential that made him a first rounder. If he has finally figured it out the Hawks could have another power forward named Stewart on their team in the near future.

The 2nd player acquired is no slouch himself. Alex Petrovic bring excellent tools to the table. At 6'4 he has a projectable frame, and is by no means afraid to use it. He has also shown offensive upside this season, with 13 points in 14 games to start the year for the Red Deer Rebels.

Lovejoys departure will likely mean the team will sign one of their many blueline prospects to shore up the Rockford blueline. According to GM Semonick the leading canidates are recent draftees Jake Muzzin or Nick Holden. It is believed the team will hold off one more year before activating uber-prospect Victor Hedman.
