Bruins Not Finnish-ed

2010-12-01

The Boston Bruins GM continued to work the phones.  In a short span they have been able to make a couple notable additions in Evander Kane, Dion Phaneuf and Erik Johnson.  Coming to Boston is Dion Phaneuf to play along side Andrei Markov on their top line. “We feel with the acquisition of Phaneuf we have one of the best pairing in the league.” The Bruins gain of Phaneuf comes at loss of Christian Ehrhoff. The Bruins continue to build a young nucleus by acquiring Evander Kane for Karl Alzner. “We did not want to give up Alzner but we hope Evander will fulfill his potential as a power-forward.”

In the most recent transaction the Boston Bruins acquired Erik Johnson, Sean Avery,  Brad Marchand. Bruins paid a heafty price in acquiring those player giving up young gun Kyle Okposo and hulking defensemen Jeff Schultz. The Bruins acquired two Fininish player in two separate transactions. It was announced that Boston Bruins moved Mikael Backlund, Grez Nemisz and a MTL 2nd 2011 for  Mikael Granlund and 1st in 2011. Granlund is only 5’10 but is well known for his on ice vision which lead him to be the first European trained player drafted in the 2010 NHL Draft.  Known for his play making skills and good hands Granlund is often compared to Saku Koivu.

A short time later GM Valente received a phone call from Calgary GM looking to dump some salary. With a back log of defensemen on the blueline Kent Huskins was swapped for Saku Koivu. “Saku will help provide some leadership on a young Bruins squad and provide some relief down in middle.”

Rumor Mill: Despite all the recent movement Bruins will be looking to add a few more pieces to the puzzle but do not foresee anymore major shakeups.
