Hawks Sign Free Agent Moreau, Plus 2 FA's

2009-07-18

The Chicago Blackhawks have announced the signing of veteran free agent winger Ethan Moreau, as well as two free agents Eric Walsky and David Marshall. "Ethan brings us another reliable veteran who posesses excellent leadership qualities, and can play an abrasive style on one of our checking lines, Walsky and Marshall will join our minor league affilate, and we are excited about their long term potential" said Hawks GM Todd Semonick.

The 34 year old Moreau would appear to be penciled in on the Hawks 4th line, the last remaining hole on their depth chart. The signing furthers speculation that winger Milan Michalek's days as a Chicago Blackhawk are growing slim. Management still however maintains they are trying to sign the talented winger, however there have been no new developments on that front in the past few weeks.

The two young forwards the Hawks added both enjoyed excellent seasons for their respective teams in the NCAA. Walsky notched 12 goals, and 36 points in 34 games for powerhouse Colorado College, while Marshall tallied 22 goals and 46 points in 38 games for Quinnipac. Both figure to suit up for Chicago's AHL affiliate Rockford next season.
