Rangers get their man

2015-08-24

The New York Rangers came into the Free Agent Frenzy with one desire, identify a player that can help the team with their transition game. The issue that team was facing was cap constraints that they still have to address.

The player they identified as one that contained the skill set they desired was defenceman Mark Streit. Mark has been an effecient offensive contributor on every team he's played and the Rangers feel he will continue that here in NY.

The deal is for 1 year at 2 million.

"We made our pitch and crossed our fingers. Mark holds a skill set that we felt would be very attractive on the market and one that would garner a much more lucrative offer. We are fortunate that he shared the vision that we expressed when we met with him and his agent."

Mark Streit summed up the decision to sign with the Rangers

"At my age, while I feel I have a few years left, it's more important to me to have an opportunity to win than it is to maximize my monetary value. I felt and feel that the Rangers, with the moves they have made this summer, provide me with the best chance at winning so while the decinion was tough, at the end of the day signing in NY made sense for me at this time. I'm excited to get started."
